Get a realistic view of the requirements to start a business and the resources available to support your new venture. While attending this 2-hour workshop, at no cost, you will learn how to get your business name registered, where to obtain a tax ID number, which legal form to choose, business planning, taxes, financing options and much more!  These events are sponsored by the Illinois Small Business Development Center at Bradley University and co-sponsored by Morton Community Bank. Learn the importance of a concise Capability Statement; a profile of your business’ core competencies, specific areas of experience and expertise that relate to projects or agencies as well as differentiators that set your company apart.  This includes equipment, facilities, major customers, references and completed projects indicating past performance.  Add to that the always important contact information.

Ms. Krueger-Huhra has 28 years of progressive career growth in automotive manufacturing integrating Procurement and Supply with the organization’s strategic objectives.  Prior to joining the Illinois PTAC program, she was General Manager/Director, Procurement and Supply at Mitsubishi Motors North America Manufacturing Division where she was responsible for 32 direct and indirect management and staff engaged in Procurement Administration, Cost Engineering, Production Purchasing, Material and Services Purchasing, Supplier Quality Assurance and New Model Engineering and Development directing annual spends of $740M in Global Sourcing with suppliers in 266 global locations.

 

Ms. Krueger-Huhra has received the globally recognized CPSM designation by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM).  She is a Past President and held numerous positions on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Purchasing Management – Central Illinois, Inc. an affiliate of the ISM.

The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Bradley University has partnered with Grow with Google and is excited to provide the following webinar training at no cost to participants. Grow with Google helps people grow their skills, careers and businesses by offering free digital skills training and tools.
 
During this webinar you will be given tools to assist you in selling your products online We'll walk through listing your products for free with Google My Business and Merchant Center. And we'll show you one way to sell on your website, using an E-Commerce store built with Shopify. Plus, learn about more helpful tools to stand out online, such as Local Opportunity Finder and Grow My Store.

-New business and start-ups that have little to no experience with eCommerce or any online selling.

Greg Douglas has over 16 years of experience in marketing and advertising. This has included selling commercials on cable television with Comcast to print advertising with the Peoria Journal Star. In both of these positions he was able to learn about e-commerce and digital advertising when it was still in its infancy. He has an inside perspective of online marketing. The digital marketing landscape has been ever changing and evolving over the past 10-15 years. However, the COVID pandemic has made it even more important for a business to have an online presence and ability for their customers to order products, services, etc. from any device.
 
With support from Cares Act funding and the Gilmore Foundation, the Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Bradley University has launched programs to support local businesses, in assisting in the implementation or improvement of their eCommerce strategies. These projects aim to provide constructive feedback with actionable items to build an online foundation for your business’ accessibility, viability, and growth.  The Illinois Small Business Development Center offers no-cost and confidential assistance for all SBA-related grant programs.

No cost to attend.
MHT has a broad range of legal services and is well known for their no-nonsense, straightforward labor and employment advice, along with other services offered to local employers.
Who should attend:
  • Sole-proprietors who are considering hiring their first employees.
  • Small businesses looking to expand.
  • All businesses, especially those with questions about:
    • Hiring and interviewing.
    • Personnel records.
    • Employee benefits.

Joshua Herman enjoys advising local employers regarding all aspects of employment, from interviewing employees, preparing personnel policies, navigating potential claims for liability, investigating employee misconduct, and even assisting employers having to terminate an employee when the situation calls for it. He regularly assists clients in avoiding potential lawsuits while they navigate the many state and federal laws applicable to Illinois employers.
Joshua has practiced law since 2008, concentrating in employment and labor law, commercial law, municipal and school law, and related litigation. Joshua received his Bachelor’s degree in 2003 from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. After his deployment to Iraq as an Army Reservist, Joshua attended the Chicago-Kent and the University of Illinois Colleges of Law.
While at the University of Illinois, Joshua received the Best Trial Advocate and Best Oral Advocate awards in addition to being on the Green National Moot Court Team. In 2008 he obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois College of Law, graduating summa cum laude and receiving the Rickert Awards for Excellence in Advocacy and Excellence in Academics. He is also a member of the Order of the Coif.
Katherine Swise has practiced law since 2010, concentrating in general litigation, including representing employers in litigation of employment matters, as well as municipal and school law and general litigation.
Katherine received her Bachelor’s degree in 2001 from Knox College. She later attended the University of Illinois College of Law, graduating summa cum laude in 2010. While at Illinois, Katherine was a member of the University of Illinois Law Review and the Order of the Coif.

Scouts BSA Troops 178 and 1178 are holding their annual spaghetti dinner and silent auction fundraiser on January 29, 2022, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Morton United Methodist Church, 420 N. Tennessee Ave., Morton. Advance tickets are available for $7 per person for adults, $5 for seniors (60+) and children, or $25 for a family of up to five. Cost at the door is $8 per person for adults, $6 for seniors (60+) and children, or $25 for a family of up to five.
 
Cost includes spaghetti with sauce (meat or no meat available) garlic bread, salad and beverages, all cheerfully served by the members of Scouts BSA Troops 178 and 1178. Carryout will be available.
 
Bids for the silent auction will be accepted from 4 to 7:30 p.m. There will also be a bake sale all night. Anyone bringing a canned food donation will receive a free cookie or dessert from the bake sale table.
